'I am inspired by all that I see, in particular the beauty within hardship, I record war and the effects of war in Art. The landscape, people, equipment and soldiers the emotions and the reality of a life. Soldiers find themselves in a testing and exciting environment. I find it rewarding to draw the viewer into the situation, young men and women from both sides - the armies and civilian populations. I feel great pleasure when, in my work, someone recognises a moment they have experienced in their own life'. Douglas Farthing MBE.

Projects & Exhibitions this year:

Latest News: An exhibition of my work is due to start soon. 2Years 2Wars The exhibition runs from the 9th January - 29th February 2012, 9am – 5pm at The Visitor Centre, National Memorial Arboretum, Croxall Road, Alrewas, Staffordshire. DE13 7AR
Overview: 'Sgt Maj Douglas Farthing MBE is no ordinary artist. His art records war and the effects of war. The landscape, people, soldiers and their equipment - the emotions and reality of life. His exhibition entitled '2Years 2Wars' was the culmination of two journeys recorded in traveling war diaries covering Iraq and the North West frontier, on the Afghan and Pakistan border. Often painting in searing temperatures his studio can be a trench, a rooftop or a hillside. He works quickly to capture moments in time from Iraq and Afghanistan'.

National Army Museum: one of my best ever paintings can now be purchased as a fine art print at the National Army Museum in London, you can buy it on line from the NAM's web site. I'm so chuffed. 'The Fourth Man' depicts 3 soldiers patrolling the narrow medieval streets of Kabul looking from mine. The fourth man's perspective. A great painting which captures the movement and heaviness of the equipment carried. The chaos of a Kabul street. 2 PARA was the first British Battalion to enter Kabul and help create a safer environment in order to allow normality to grow. The Tour for us was a great success.
